Abstract:
This research was aimed at finding out whether there was improvement on students’ vocabulary learning through retelling stories and role playing.The participants of the research were selected on the basis of convenience sampling. Two intact classes at beginner level were selected to be experimental group and control group. Both groups consisted of a total of 40 students: 20 experimental group and 20 control group. The researcher, who was also a teacher, was in charge of teaching English for beginning level students at Safir Language Institute in Isfahan. Naturally, they became ideal samples for the research. A researcher made vocabulary test was used to collect data in this research. The result showed that there was improvement on students’ vocabulary learning after being taught through retelling story and role playing. These techniques could improve students’ vocabulary learning in all aspects. It can be concluded that retelling stories and role playing could be used to improve students vocabulary learning.
