Abstract:

Emotional maturity and social-emotional loneliness are two important factors in psychological domain especially for the students. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between emotional maturity and social-emotional loneliness with some demographic variables among dormitory students. This study is conducted based on descriptive-correlative method. The study population is consisted of all students which resided in a dormitory in Iran at 2019 of who 190 people were included in the study. Data was collected using Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale for Adults (SELSA-S) and Emotional Maturity Scale of Singh and Bhargava were used to measure emotional maturity. The findings of this study indicated that there is a significant relationship between loneliness and relation with the family (P<0.001) but no significant relationship is found between loneliness and other demographic variables. Meanwhile, a significant relationship is seen between gender (P=0.024), place of birth (p=0.035), relation with the family (p<0.001) and disease (p=0.024) variables. Meanwhile, this study indicated that most of the students were in moderate to high range of loneliness and in very instable and instable range of emotional maturity. Given to negative consequences of low emotional maturity and loneliness among the students, it is proposed that psychological conditions of the students to be improved by applying various reinforcement programs including appropriate psychological trainings and awareness raising for the students and authorities and their families from the fist they enter to the university.
