Students are recognized as the capital of each nation. Emotional maturity and loneliness are two important issues among students that can influence their social performance. This study aims to determine the relationship between emotional maturity and social-emotional loneliness among dormitory students in Iran.Methods: This study was conducted using descriptive-correlational methods. The statistical population of this study consists of all students residing in a student dormitory affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences 2019, 190 of whom were selected through convenience sampling. Singh and Bhargava’s Emotional Maturity Questionnaire and Adult Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale (SELAS-S) were used for data collection. Data were analyzed by SPSS software (version 21) using descriptive and inferential statistics.Findings: the results of this study suggested that the majority of students were found to be at high (52.6%) and moderate (46.3%) level in terms of loneliness, and at very unstable (42.1%) and unstable (34.2%) level in terms of emotional maturity. Also, there was a significant relationship between social-emotional loneliness and emotional maturity in a way that with an increase in emotional maturity, the level of students’ loneliness decreased (p<0.001 and r = 0.456).Conclusion: High emotional maturity among students could lead to decreased social-emotional loneliness. Considering the significance of this subject, designing the programs of fostering and developing emotional maturity among students such as educational programs, could lead to improving students’ emotional maturity and also their performance level.
