Abstract:

In this research production of biodiesel from waste frying oil using CaO obtained from blast furnace slag was investigated. The slag was ground to powder (particle size 200 mesh). Then, for activation, the catalyst was calcined for 18 hours at 1000 ° C.Analysis of catalyst including BET,FE-SEM,TGA and XRF were performed. The transesterificaion reaction between waste frying oil and methanol was carried out at a constant temperature of 620C and mixing intensity of 800rpm,with varied methanol to oil molar ratio(12,15,18:1),catalyst amount(20,30,40%) and the reaction time(2,4,6 h). The produced biodiesel has been analyzed by gas chromatography (GC). The results show the biodiesel production in the presence of thi material although it contains high calcium oxide and has very good physical properties but biodiesel production is very low in the presence of this material.
