Abstract:
The major purpose of the research is to explain students’ understanding of mathematical creativity phenomenon and that how the intentions and beliefs of mathematics students influence on their creative solutions of the mathematics problems. The research is a qualitative research via grounded theory. Participants were selected from the students who are majoring in mathematics in the universities of Tehran City by purposive sampling. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 13 students. After transcribing, data coded in the steps of free coding and axial coding. According to result, students’ understanding of mathematical creativity phenomenon is in harmony with the experts’ views in the area. Also, the classification codes led to a number of core categories and there are several subcategories for both of intentions and beliefs categories that explain how the intentions and beliefs of mathematics students influence on their creative solutions of the mathematics problems.
