The Needs for Hydraulic Fracturing in Iranian Carbonate Oilfields:Acid or Propped Fracture?

Hydraulic Fracturing is probably the most widely used stimulation technique in the world today. As highly productive fields get difficult to find and productive fields become more depleted, hydraulic fracturing prospects become vigorously significant issue. In this paper the problem background of current stimulation method, matrix acidizing, will briefly addresses the main reason of formation damage in Iran. After demonstration of the main causes of formation damage, the effective stimulation method will be presented. In carbonates, a choice exists between acid and propped fracturing treatments. The main reasons which show why propped hydraulic fracturing was selected will be discussed at the end of this paper.
