خلاصه مقاله:
Water deficit is the most predominant environmental stress, limiting plant growth and productivity. However, there are considerable differences in sensitivity to adverse conditions, between or within species. Therefore, improvement of drought tolerance is suggested as one of the most desirable breeding objectives. This study was conducted to assess differences in stress responses, in order to screen drought tolerant genotypes of Rosa damascena. Twelve accessions collected from different parts of Iran, were evaluated for drought tolerance at Homand Research Station affiliated to Research Institute of Forests and Rangelands. Different characters were recorded including plant height, canopy, flower yield and components, oil percentage under drought and or irrigated conditions. The statistical analyses applied included ANOVA, mean comparison (Duncan), and some multivariate analyses including cluster analyses. There was a considerable variation for water deficit responses. All of the characters including flower yield and number, oil percentage to be significantly different in the drought stressed genotypes. and mean comparison classified the accessions into different groups under both conditions. The result indicated different levels of drought tolerance and various potential for growth and flower production under drought or dryland farming. The variation in growth components detected between the genotypes and the correlation between different traits, could support a suggestion for improvement of Rosa damascena, towards a capability of growth in semi-arid and arid conditions. Therefore, high heterosis could be achieved for flower yield and components, through combining genotypes located in the distant groups.
