Abstract:

About 130 species of genus Anthemis occur throughout the world. Thirty-nien of them could be found in flore of Iran (1). According to literature, this species was not the subject of research up to now and therefore its chemical composition is not well known. However, flavonoids, polyphenolic acids, terpene and sesquiterpene compounds were reported to be the major constituents of some other species of the genus Anthemis (2). Chemical data concerning the qualitative and quantitative composition of Anthemis altissma oil are presented here for the first time. Anthemis altissima var. altissima , Anthemis triumfettii (L.) All. subsp. triumfettii , Anthemis odontostephana Growing wild in North Iran [Elburz area :Ghameshahr, Pole-Sefid, 300m, Mozaffarian 80548 (TARI)] was collected in July 2001. About 168 gm flowers were separated and subjected to separate hydrodistillation using a Clevenger type system. The oil yields obtained were flowers 0.15% on a fresh weight basis. The oil were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The volatile constituents of Anthemis altissima L. var. altissima. The major constituents of flower oil were spathulenol (18.7%), caryophyllene oxide (9.3%), 1-eicosene (7%) and sabinene (6.2%), while The major constituents of A. triumfettii flower oil were elemol (15.8%), - copaene (8.6%), elemicin (7.9%), and humulene oxide II (8.0%), and in Anthemis hyalina DC., Syn.: Anthemis crassipes Boiss. growing wild in North west of Iran (Koheen area : 35 Km after Gazvin city, were collected in 1 June 2001. The oil yields obtained were 0.05% on a dry weight basis. The major constituents volatile oil were trans (E)-nerolidol (21.1%), ledol (10.5%), phytol (7.9%), and caryophyllene oxide (6.9%) and Anthemis odontostephana were artemisia alcohol( 9.4%) , ethyl hexanoate (8.8%) , n-nonadecane (5.6%) , -acorenol(11.9%).
