Abstract:

In order to study goat situation in Bushehr province, 200 questionnairs was distributed in six region using stratified sampling method and information about production systems. goat types, physical characteristics, milk yield, reproduction and mating systems were collected. the results show that goat production in province is including rural, farming and nomadic systems. In rural system, goats are kept in small herds (5 . 20 animals). The aim of production is to provide animal products for rural household and this is a lateral job for villagers. These herds use ranges throughout the year. In farming systems, herder in addition to husbandry do agricultural work. Each herd contain 50- 200 animals in this system, goats feed ranges in one half of the year and crop residues in another half. In nomadic system, large herds (usually more than 100 animals) travel over large areas of land for finding food. In this system, husbandry is the main job of herders. With a view to breeding variation, three type of goats are in province that include:1- Long black. hair goat: this type is dominat goat in province and distributed in through out of province regions, but they are majority of goat herds in mountainous regions. Evident factors of this type are much ability of movement, resistance against deficiency of water and forage and they are mainly kept for thier meat. Their body are covered with long and mostly black hairs. About 94/7 % females and % 96/3 males have horn. The mean of wither height is 67/4 cm in females and 73/9 cm in males. The mean of body's length is 55/2 cm in females and 56 em in males. The mean size of around chest is 76/5 cm in females and 78/9 em in males. The mean of milk yield in one lactation period is 54- 71 kg. Their reproduction rate is 1/5 . 2 kids in a year. 2- Short hair goat: this type of goat mainly distribute in regions of pastoral and coastal. They are usually kept according to rural system. Their body are covered with short hairs and are russet, red, white or mixture of two colour. This goat is dual purpose. About % 68/2 females and % 80 males have horn. The mean of wither height is 68/6 cm in females and 71/6 cm in males. The mean of body's length is 43/3 cm in females and 54 cm in males. The mean size of around chest is 76 cm in females and 75/4 in males. The mean of milk yield in one lactation period is 90- 120 kg. Their reproduction rate is 2- 2/5 kids in a year.3- Pakestani goat: this type of goat is entered to province by Afgani immigrants and distributed in mainly province regions. They have tall and long body with short hairs and mostly red colour. The mean of wither height is 76 cm in females and 87/3 cm in males. The mean of body's length is 59/8 cm in females and 62/7 cm in males. The mean size of oround chest is 85/8 cm in females and 88 cm in males. The mean of milk yield in one lactation period is 130 . 160 kg. Their reproduction rate is 2- 4 kids in a year. With a view to nutritional, all the herders use from natural ranges for grazing of their .animals. Because of poorness of ranges in province about % 80 herders feed their animals by barley, surplus whole date, and dried bakery waste in order to supplementary nutrition. In production systems of province goats there is no determined mating system.
