Earthquake Disaster Prevention and the 1999 Turkish Earthquake

The research work is to explore the potential of a multi-disciplinary approach (structural engineering combined with social science) in mitigating the effects of earthquake disaster. The objective is to investigate the role of national and local government in enforcing the earthquake design for the design of structures in active seismic areas and in maintaining the quality assurance of the design. The empirical focus will be the 1999 Kocaeli earthquake in Turkey.
