Abstract:

Floods are one of the most serious natural disasters in the world both in terms of casualties and financial losses. Of concern is the increasing trend of flood casualties in the world in recent decades. Population and asset growth in floodplains changes in hydrosystems and the detrimental effects of human activities have been major causes of this trend. One of the methods of flood severity adjustment is the use of basins or reservoirs for flood control, which are used as inefficient development methods to control runoff at the origin and mitigate urban floods. The role of this operation is to provide more opportunity for runoff to penetrate into the soil by reducing the rate of runoff at the soil surface, which reduces the peak discharge. In this study, flood containment and flood peak discharge reduction using delayed tanks of 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000 and 5000 square meters were investigated. The results show the high efficiency of the use of delayed tanks in the Cheitgar area. The results of flood discharge after construction of delayed tanks were 1.56, 0.82, 0.63, 0.54 and 0.44 m3/s, respectively. Determining the most appropriate option requires an economic review and comparison between options.
