Abstract:

The debilitating repercussions of the Great War instigated drastic turbulences in the real/imaginative world. The abrasion of transcendental shelters and the prevalence of modern discourses frustrated individuals and created barren sentimentality. Being conceived with diverse purposes, western literary figures got aspiration from Eastern artistic attempts. For instance, The Imagist movement in poetry, having its root in Japanese art forms, with its spokesperson Ezra Pound called for a distinct form of poetic techniques stressing precision and clarity in conveying meaning through the units of images. With its focus on the origin of this specific movement and its probable upshots on modern individuals, this article has chosen Pound’s shortest poem, “In a Station of the Metro” as the epitomized poem of Imagism for analysis. This study aims to probe the shocking influences of Pound’s Imagism on the readers. Analyses lead to the fact that Imagist shock can strengthen critical thinking and empower universal humanity
