Abstract:

Listening is a vital language skill to be taught for foreign language learners in the classroom. Despite its significance, English teachers consider it as the most challenging language skill to teach. This study aimed at probing the problems of Iranian English teachers toward teaching listening comprehension in high schools.To achieve this goal, the researchers used a quantitative approach for collecting the data. Thirty Iranian English teachers were chosen by using purposive sampling. The participants filled in the online questionnaire with three subparts including problems related to teachers’ proficiency, teaching environment and teaching materials. Thedata were analyzed by SPSS. Based on the result, most of the teachers believed that their problems related to the teaching environment. The classrooms were not well-equipped and they were also disturbing and uncomfortable for teaching listening. The teachers’ proficiency was the next problem mentioned by the teachersand it was mentioned that they need more training courses
