The Role of Urban Park in Sustainable Cities and Quality of Life: Laleh Park, Tehran

Following the industrial revolution in nineteenth century, the process of massive urbanization and increasing population create challenges for communities in modern cities. In this scenario sustainable development and urban park movement with the objective of increasing life quality have been recognized as widely accepted strategic frameworks for city planning. This research explores sustainable development and public parks in the urban context as strategic frameworks for increasing the quality of human life. In this regard, Laleh Park in Tehran has been chosen as the main concern and case of the study. The primary aim of this study is to make an analytical research of the selected park and its surrounded zone, from the viewpoint of its spatial characteristics and different experiences that it provides for the users. The analysis addresses public parks for the well-being of the urban residents and development of the sustainable cities. This research suggests learning from the Laleh Park as an appropriate public park with spatial structures for developing sustainable cities.
