Abstract:

Identification concerns are one of the most important trends in developing countries. In a developing country, such as India, colonizing and building modern land uses led to the spread of modernism and some form of uniformity and generalism in architecture; The Cultural disruption and loss of identity during colonial times made society more concerned with identity than ever. Architecture as part of society's identity has not been excluded. Charles Correa, an Indian architect of identity, combines traditional architecture with the principles of modernism to give Indian architecture a new identity, later called regionalism. Correa has a great deal to do with regionalism, this article only analyzes her most important regionalism works, such as the Vidan Bahan State Assembly, Jawahar kala kendra Cultural Center, and the Gandhi Smark Museum. Therefore, the main purpose of analyzing the components of regionalism in corea's works is to express how he is identified. The present paper has a qualitative approach and the research method in this descriptive-analytical research is based on review and analysis of studies. The main question of this study is related to correa's approach to identity, or in other words, how has correa identified its architectural works with the regionalism approach? What is the representation of identity in correa works? The results show that identity in Correa works means responding to existing needs, using the regionalism approach to the creation of ideas and concepts, and subsequently responding to climate and social aspects. Finally, it can be concluded that considering human (economic and social) and environmental (climate responsiveness) needs and the use of construction technology alongside the inspiration of indigenous culture and architecture (form and materials) can be a viable solution to create architecture with regional identity in developing countries.
