Abstract:
Hydraulic capacity of a stormwater channel has greatly depended on its ability to transport sediment particle. For this purpose, stormwater channels are designed based on sediment transport principles to minimize the deposition of the sediment. Relying on the hydraulics of the sediment transport, fluid, flow, sediment, and channel variables must be included in a model to capture entire effective factors. In this study, a wide range of experimental data collected from the literature are utilized to develop an empirical formula similar to the existing models in the literature. The experimental data covering wide ranges of pipe size, sediment size and sediment volumetric concentration. Are utilized in the modeling. The accuracy of the new recommended formula is examined in contrast to its alternatives available in the literature in terms of error measurement indices. The developed formula in this study is found superior to the corresponding models suggested for stormwater channel design in terms of accurate flow velocity computation. Results indicate that the range of experimental data has significantly effect on the robustness of the sediment transport design formula.
