Abstract:

Remarkable progresses can be seen in the dairy industry in terms of number and size in most countries of the world. Dairy industry wastewaters have suspended and dissolved solids, nutrients, fats and are characterized by high chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD). Therefore, water resources can be severely contaminated if appropriate wastewater treatment be neglected before discharge. In this research, recent advances in dairy have been discussed. In addition, the efficiency of Proxone method has been evaluated and the optimal dosages of H2O2 and O3 (for a specific PH), which are known as the principle factors involved in determining the efficiency of the treatment, have been obtained aiming to make the treatment process more cost-effective. In this method, the percentage of COD removal was analyzed using both Response Surface Methodology (RMS) and Central Composite Design (CCD) methods. According to the results, the optimal dosages of H2O2 and?O3 for a 87.15 percent removal should be 550 and 3000 respectively at a PH of 4. Compared to other commonly used methods for dairy wastewater treatment, Proxone method is a timesaving method which can also be easily implemented for late degradable materials resulting in acceptable levels of COD reduction.
