Abstract:
A comprehensive study of quantities and composition of household solid waste was carried out at 5 cities located at Fars province, in four seasons during 2010-2011. This study reveals that the total household solid waste are 598, 536, 594, 618, 515 gr/capita/day for 5 cities of Jahrom, Fasa, Abadeh, Kazeroun and Marvdasht respectively. The average bulk density of solid waste was found 280.67 kgm-3 as well. In general, high organic content (71.01%) and high moisture content (70-80%) reveal that composting solid waste can be considered more optimal as alternative treatment such as incineration. Recyclable waste made up 15.8 wt% of the waste composition suggesting a motivation to introduce source separation. In addition, chemical analyses also carried out to investigate the feasibility of microorganism activity.
