Abstract:

Post installed adhesive anchoring systems have seen widespread use in retrofit and rehabilitating old concrete structures. Despite extensive studies on this system, there is a lack of a robust and reliable numerical model that predicts the behavior of these anchors correctly. In this paper, a new numerical model for quadruple adhesive bonded anchors is developed using LS-DYNA FEM software. The model is verified against available experimental data in the literature. The results of FE models are compared against ACI predictions. On the basis of the analysis results, the current ACI equations do not provide a realistic prediction for the maximum tensile capacity of adhesive bonded anchors. Recommendations for the design and modeling of these anchors are provided.
