خلاصه مقاله:
Demotivation is a relatively new topic in the field of second or foreign language acquisition which is in need of more rigorous research. some learners may become demotivated during their experience of learning a language. Demotivating factors can negatively influence the learners’ attitudes in learning English language. Recognizing and removing barriers can have a marked effect on motivation and attention to learning in general and ESL/EFL learning in particular. This study investigated factors influencing the demotivation of Iranian high school EFL students. Ten high school girls in grade 11students took part in this study. This research was designed as a qualitative study and involved an open - ended questionnaire for data collection. The result revealed that both external and internal factors were as the main demotivation factors for students . School facilities(80%), instructor's teaching methods(50%), study method(50%) and text books(40%) were most important external factors. Compulsory of learning English language was the most important (70%) among internal factors. These findings suggest that internal factors cannot be ignored as demotivating factors when studying them among Iranian students. The findings suggest that teachers need to develop an awareness of the sources of demotivation among learners and the strategies to cope with them.
