Evaluation of measuring light appearance in Timchehs of Tabriz Grand Bazaar (Case Study: Mozaffariyyeh Timcheh)

As the most nonmaterial tangible element of nature, light is the first condition for any kind of visual perception and is also a crucial element in the design. In this regard, knowing about the way of applying natural light in different spaces was crucial in the architecture of the past eras. Tabriz Bazaar is one of the distinguished examples of Iranian architecture in which the main concept of light and its natural usage in different spaces can be observed. This research tries to investigate the amount of natural light in Mozaffariyyeh Timcheh (largest and most active Timcheh) of Tabriz Bazaar and the relationship between space application and the amount of light as one of the main elements in the spatial structure of Bazaar. Light in Mozaffariyyeh Timcheh and its orientation relative to the sun, the amount of opening and the method of gaining light will be addressed in this study. The aim of this research is the relationship between the amount of light and the spatial importance of Mozaffariyyeh Timcheh. The research is a survey-descriptive one performed by the data obtained from field and library methods. In this study, the importance of space light gaining was evaluated by skylight and application of awning window to benefit from natural light in comparison with artificial light.
