Broadbent, Larry and Keegan: The Colonizer and the Other in the Third Space

This article studies John Bull's Other Island and tries to disavow the traditionally straightforward analysis of thepower relations in which the colonizer is considered as the absolute power with regard to its power relationshipsbetween the colonizer and the colonized (the Other). "Colonial mimicry strategy", proposed by Homi K. Bhabha,functions in the hands of both the colonizer and the colonized; they mutually exert power and project their wishesonto each other. The identities of the English figure, Broadbent, and the Irishmen, Larry and Keegan, are formedin the presence of the Other.
