Discourse Markers and Reading Comprehension

In past years, a great deal of studies has been done analyzing the use and function of discourse markers in differenttexts and on different learners. This review paper, attempts to analyze discourse markers (henceforth DMs) and readingcomprehension to make a contribution to literature. In the course of this paper I first, clarify the definition of readingcomprehension and DMs, then I present a classification of DMs based on Fraser’s theory and Chaudron and Richards’,finally I examine the advantages of using DMs in reading comprehension. This paper can be helpful in pedagogicalsetting and also useful to test developers.
