Abstract:

This study analyses and compares the number of passive tenses among ten articles that they have twosubjects. One of the subjects is agriculture that five of the articles are related to this one and another one isabout emotion and contains five articles. In written discourse and articles it is preferred to use passive tensesinstead of active ones, but in some situation active tenses is used too. As Hyland stated "students are told toleave their personalities at the door when they write and not use personal pronouns such as 'I'". The result ofthe study demonstrates that in articles that are related to agriculture is used more passive tenses that thearticles that related to emotion and the analysis say that there is significant difference between two types ofarticles.
