Abstract:
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium L.) is a widespread plant from the Asteraceae family confined to the Northernhemisphere. The name of the genus originates from the ancient use as a wound-healing remedy by the Trojan heroAchilles, whereas millefolium refers to the deeply divided leaves. Achillea millefolium L. The traditional use of yarrowcomprises the treatment of inflammatory and spasmodic gastro-intestina disorders and hepato-biliary complaints. Moreover, it is used as an appetite-enhancing drug due to its bitter taste, for wound healing and against skininflammations. The aerial parts of the plant are generally applied as aqueous or alcoholic extracts. Besides the traditional useof self-collected plant material, Achillea millefolium L. is contained in various industrial tea mixtures as well as in somephytopharmaceuticals.Considering the fact that yarrow also contains phenolic compounds which are known to possess variouspharmacological effects encouraged us to study their contribution to the biological activity of Achillea millefolium L.Phytohormones are a group of chemically diverse molecules that control virtually all aspects of plantsdevelopment. In this project the effect of Indole-3-butyric acid, kinetin and Methyl jasmonate phytohormones withdifferent concentrations on essential Oil of Achillea millefolium L. arial parts were evaluated. The composition of Achillea millefolium L essential oil was analyzed by GC/MS.The results of this project were showed that different effects of phytohormones on the plant oil. Theyincreased or decreased some of the effects on some of the components, as well as the elimination of a number ofcompounds and the production of new compounds. It seems a useful method.
