Abstract:

Climate has always played an important role in shaping cities and consequently architecture. Climatic factors have a direct impact on the formation of indigenous architecture in different regions. This is especially important in hot-arid climates, which make up a large part of Iran, due to its climatic constraints. Among the various types of hot- arid climate architecture, the house has a special place as a human habitat. The purpose of this study is to investigate the environmental and climate sustainability measures in the design of hot- arid climates in Iran. That is, to what extent they conform to the principles of environmental sustainability. The physical scope of this study was selected and studied from a variety of buildings, residential architecture, and traditional houses in Kerman province. The purpose of the present research is from the perspective of purpose in the field of applied research. It also uses two research methods, historical ones to understand and study the historical course of past events, and descriptive research methods that describe location components or environmental conditions. Descriptive and comparative method was used for data analysis. Research findings have shown that traditional houses in hot- arid climate of Kerman province largely comply with environmental sustainability measures.
