Abstract:
Constructal theory is now a fast growing field with contributions from many sources, and with leads in many directions. It is a means for optimization of resistances in the area-point flows. In the present study, the problem of cooling a disc by highly conductive inserts was examined analytically and numerically. This work was accomplished using a fixed amount of highly conductive material distributed as incomplete inserts from the center (sink). Using constructal theory, heat resistances of the radial and constructal configurations were evaluated and optimized analytically and compared to the numerical results which a good agreement was observed. The solution was remarkably different from the complete insert case. Finally, we concluded that in a special range of parameters, incomplete insert configuration surpasses the complete insert structure.
