Abstract:

In order to evaluate mechanical properties of unidirectional (UD) composite at room temperature and -60 °C which can be used in progressive damage modeling of laminated composites, analytical models based on micromechanical properties of composites are applied to predict the behavior of unidirectional (UD) composite under different types of loadings at room temperature and -60 °C. In the present method, by simple experiments on glass fiber and epoxy resin, and applying various analytical models, UD composite at different temperatures are full characterized. These data can be used as enormous input data for progressive damage modeling of a laminated composite with arbitrary stack sequences. Previously these data were calculated from direct experimental tests which were too much costly and time consuming. Also good agreements are found between experimental and analytical results for mechanical properties of UD at the room temperature and -60 °C.
