Abstract:

This research was carried out to investigate the effects of dietary selenium (Se) sources on Semen Quality in Commercial Male Broiler Breeders. The experimental treatment diets were: 1) control (basal diet, none-selenium), 2) basal diet + 0.5 mg sodium selenite (SS), 3) basal diet + 0.5 mg Selenomethionine (S-Meth) and 4) basal diet + 0.5 mg microencapsulated selenium (MS-Met) per kg diet. Semen was collected from roosters at 54 wk by using abdominal massage. Semen quality parameters (semen volume, semen concentration, motility, viability, sperm membrane integrity, sperm abnormality and malondialdehyde concentration) were evaluated. The results indicated that the birds fed an organic sources of selenium (M-Se-Meth, Se-Meth) the percentage of membrane integrity was increased (P<0.05) , and concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA) was reduced (P<0.05) compared to inorganic selenium (SS) and the highest result were obtained in the birds received M-S-Meth diet. Also, the results indicated that sperm motility, viability -, sperm membrane integrity, abnormality of sperm and MDA were improved (P<0.05) in birds fed Se supplemented diet. In conclusion, the use of organic selenium supplementation in diet of could be recommended for improving of semen quality in commercial male broiler breeders.
