Abstract:

Nowadays, the electric vehicles as the ongoing solution for air pollution control is highly recommended among car manufacturers. However, like as many other new aspects, this innovative alternative has its own obstacles as well. Structural safety is one of the main issues that should be addressed before replacing the internal combustion engines (ICE) with electric vehicles (EV). In this article, the side pole test as the most critical crash scenario (according to the capability of intrusion to the battery space) is selected among the crash scenarios which is using for the conventional passenger cars and a basic idea is proposed for the battery housing reinforcements. The survey is performed based on computational simulations with the aid of non-linear explicit finite element software PAM-CRASH and Beta-CAE for pre & post-processor.
