Abstract:
Honeycomb structure, inspired by nature, has changed the structural part of different engineering fields from aerospace to automotive. The significant factor in designing new elements is the decrease in the structure's weight and the strength-to-weight ratio. What makes these structures even more critical is their ability to absorb energy and capacity to prevent catastrophic failures. For damage detection, the process of crack propagation in the composites is required. This article deals with some of the most likely damages occurring in composite materials and those used in honeycomb structures whose roles in various automotive applications are inevitable.
