Sexual Function in During Pregnancy

Background and Objective: Pregnancy is one of the most sensitive periods of women's life, accompanied by psychological and physiological changes. These physical and psychological changes affect all aspects of women's lives, including marital and sexual relationships. Inadequate attention to sexual function during pregnancy can lead to problems in couples' sexual relationships.Search Method: This review article is based on reference articles on keywords related to sexual function, sexual dysfunction, pregnancy, by using internet and library resources from 2005 to 2018. Ultimately, the articles which related to sexual function during pregnancy from 2005 to 2018 were evaluated.Findings: Review of articles showed that during pregnancy, sexual intercourse is reduced, especially in the third trimester, and most couples reported orgasm disorder and decreased libido during pregnancy. The majority of articles consider the lack of adequate information about sexual intercourse during pregnancy, fear of unintended consequences of pregnancy and harm to the fetus during pregnancy, as the causes of these sexual disorders during pregnancy.Conclusion: During pregnancy, especially in the third trimester, sexual function declines. It can be helpful to give people enough information about sexual intercourse during pregnancy and to have sex counseling in pregnancy
