Abstract:

Polymer nanocomposites with different structures, shapes, and functional forms in the field of nanotechnology have become a prominent area of current research and development. The addition of nanoparticles as nanofillers to polymers allows the modification of the polymers physical properties as well as the implementation of new features in the polymer matrix. This review article covers considerations on polymer nanocomposites properties and their applications. Glass transition temperature was investigated as the most important feature of polymer nanocomposites. In this article, we review the applications of carbon nanotube, graphene, and clay montmorillonite platelet as potential nanofillers to form nanocomposites. The importance of filler dispersion in the polymeric matrix is highlighted. Polymer nanocomposites (PNCs) have potential for versatile applications ranging from remediation, energy storage, sensing and actuation, transportation and safety, defense systems, thermal flow control, information industry, to novel catalysts, cosmetics.
