Abstract:

Introduction: Recent advances in technology and its widespread acceptance by communities have greatly affected the way services are provided to patient care providers. This study aimed to investigate the benefits of using health information technology in nursing care.Methods: This study was a review. For this purpose, the keywords Nursing care, Health information technology were searched in the Pub med database, Google Scholar, Science direct. Criteria for inclusion in this study examined the use of health information technology in nursing care. The studies were studied, and the necessary information was extracted using a researcher-made checklist and analyzed and reported descriptively.Results: A total of 46,382 articles were retrieved. After review, 28 studies that had appropriate content validity were selected for the present study. The majority of studies (n = 19, 67%) stated that the use of health information technology positively affects nursing care. Sixty percent of the studies reported implementing various health information technologies on improving the quality of patient records by nurses. Other benefits covered by the study included: increased patient safety, improved time planning, reduced repetitive processes, increased coordination and communication between the care team, speed and facilitation of tracking test results and paraclinical procedures, reduction of medication errors, duration Accommodation time, treatment costs, and nursing improvement are evidence-based.Conclusion: Nurses constitute the largest workforce of care providers. Although there are still problems in adopting, designing, and implementing information technologies following the workflow of nurses, it is clear that health information technology can improve the provision of nursing care.
