Application of smartphones and software based on it in nursing education

Introduction: Nursing education has an essential role in improving nursing professionalism. In order to maintain its growing trend, nursing education must break down the boundaries of time and space and move towards innovations, development, and use of new teaching and learning methods. Designing and using mobile-based educational software can be a useful educational method to increase nursing students' scientific and practical skills. This study aims to investigate the application of smartphones and software based on them in nursing education.Methods: This study is a systematic review that was conducted in 1399. First, research-related resources were searched in SID, scholar, PubMed, and Google search engines using a combination of keywords technology, education, smartphone, Nursing, and their Persian equivalents in the period 2016 to 2020, and after reviewing the titles Articles and Elimination of Duplicate Titles Abstract Related articles were reviewed by researchers. 11 articles were selected. The data were entered in a researcher-made table.Results: After applying search restrictions, 11 related articles were found. These studies have been conducted in Korea, Egypt, Africa, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Findings showed that after using smartphones and software based on them, the amount of knowledge (7 studies), performance (3 studies), learning (5 studies), attitude (2 studies), clinical self-efficacy (3 studies), motivation Learning (2 studies), Confidence in performance and efficiency (2 studies) and Nursing skills (7 studies) increased significantly. In general, it was found that cell phones and applications based on which they are used for various purposes, especially among university students, can be useful in educating nursing students.Conclusion: Due to technological advances in education, the use of smartphones and software based on them effectively improves the process of nursing education in the long run. Studies show that effective and healthy use of mobile phones is recommended in education.
