Abstract:

Introduction: Nursing care requires clinical practice and learning theory methods. Today, due to the increasing use of smartphones in the discussion of education and learning in communities, this study was conducted to investigate the benefits of using smartphones in providing nursing care.Methods: The present study was conducted as a review method in 2020. The keywords nursing cared that mobile devices, smartphones, and Boolean were searched in PubMed and Google scholar search engines in August 2020. Only articles published in English and their full text were available during the search were selected without considering the time limit. After the initial search, only the title and abstract were examined to be relevant to the study's objectives. Finally, by reading the full text of the remaining articles, unrelated studies were removed.Results: After reviewing 1834 studies, nine articles were included in the study. The average number of people studied in these studies conducted between 2012 and 2019 was 241 nurses. Findings showed that the benefits of using smartphones in providing nursing care include: faster patient access to the nurse and reduction of patient anxiety (4 studies), improved communication between the nurse and other members of the care team (8 studies), better access to medical information and medications and improved clinical decision making (7 studies), more straightforward calculation of medication doses (4 studies), faster resolution of personal problems and increased concentration at work (1 study), higher self-confidence and reduced stress (4 studies) Improving the patient education process (3 studies), increasing patient safety (5 studies), saving time and better executive management (5 studies), sharing clinical experiences (1 study).Conclusion: The use of smartphones by nurses can play a critical role in communicating with the patient and other members of the care team, more access to medical and pharmaceutical information, and ultimately improve the decision and increase the nurse's confidence in providing nursing care.
