Investigate the problems of the health information management department and the solutions provided to improve the performance of the clinical staff

Introduction: Today, health information management unit reflects patient care and is a useful communication tool between staff and organizations. Due to the importance of information in health care organizations, information management health problems can play an essential role in managing these organizations. This study aims to investigate the problems of health information management and its causes and provide solutions to improve the performance of medical staff.Methods: A review study was conducted in September 2020 using the keywords problems, challenges, information technology, health information management, and medical records in the Google scholar database. In this study, articles published in prestigious foreign and Iranian journals were reviewed without a time limit. The titles and abstracts of related studies articles were selected and included in three categories of problems, their causes, and solutions to improve the medical staff's quality of performance in the researcher-made tables.Results: In this study, out of 30 articles, six articles were included in the study. The need for more attention to the HIM section seems necessary. Identifying the department's problems and reflecting them to the relevant authorities is one way to gain the authorities' support. According to the articles' problems, the researchers divided the most important problems facing the health information management unit into 5 main categories: technical and infrastructure problems, educational, financial, organizational, and human resources. Problems, examining the causes of problems and ways to solve them were collected separately by the authors in the realized tables.Conclusion: According to the five categories of problems in the HIM ward, it is suggested that the following items be applied to reduce and eliminate the problems of this ward and increase the medical staff's productivity from medical information and files. -Development of written instructions, especially for different units - Use of appropriate and up-to-date equipment-Special training in the field of health information management-Providing trained, motivated, and sufficient human resources-Use of up-to-date and appropriate information systems
