Abstract:

Facility Layout has a remarkable influence on communication. It is responsible for the distances which exist to travel between departments. The objective of the current study is to improve the current facility layout of Mechanical Faculty (E07) of University Technology Malaysia (UTM). The study applied a graph based methodology to submit a new layout to our case study (E07). In addition, we applied interview and observation methods to gather the needed data which was the flows between the departments. The results of the study indicated that there should not be any common border between wood work shop and lift; as well as, work wood shop and Parking in the ground floor. It indicated that electrical laboratory and lift should not have common border as well. Moreover, the only limitation for the third floor is that there should not be any common border between dean’s office and FKM office. Finally, the results of last floor demonstrated that there should not be any common border between lecturer roomand meeting room.
