Abstract:

Dielectric fluid has important influence in micro- EDM. This study surveys the role of various fluids such as DM water, Oxygenated DM water, alumina suspension in DM water and alumina suspension in oxygenated DM water. The effects of inputsparameters evaluated on machining outputs such as Material removal rate (MRR), surface roughness (SR) and micro-hardness in micro- EDM of stainless steel. The findings indicate that MRR is higherusing DM water as a dielectric. By adding Alumina powder into dielectric, MRR is decreased. The best Surface roughness belongs to samples machined in DM water. A micro hardness test has also been done for specimens machined by different dielectric fluids. Surface integrity and microstructure of samples was studied using microscope. The results revealed the adding non conducting alumina powder, and oxygen in DM water improved micro hardness ofmachined surface in micro-EDM of stainless steel
