Abstract:

Many structures can be approximated as a straight beam or as a collection of straight beams. For this reason, the analysis of stresses and deflections in a beam is an important and useful topic. A cantilever is a rigid structural element that extends horizontally and is supported at only one end. Typically it extends from a flat vertical surface such as a wall, to which it must be firmly attached. Like other structural elements, a cantilever can be formed as a beam, plate, truss,or slab. When subjected to a structural load at its far, unsupported end, the cantilever carries the load to the support where it applies a shear stress and a bending moment. Cantilever construction allows overhanging structures without additional support. In this research we are going to analyze anone-ended cantilever beam-such as an aircraft wing-, in case of bending. Normal and shear stress and strain distributions due to the applied conditions will be discussed. Then, the evaluation of verification of the applied theoretical colorations of a bending of a cantilever beam with the extracted data inANSYS Mechanical APDL is done.
