A survey of existing security mechanisms and bypassing methods in mobile core networks

Nowadays mobile network is a vital part of our lives and, Telecommunications have brought much comfort and joy in our daily routines. For many years, itwas too difficult to imagine that we can make call and use data when being abroad. However, most technologies have its own potential threats in terms of security and privacy and mobile networks is not an exceptional. Telecommunication threats have defined as critical threats.This paper represents an inclusive survey of existing security mechanisms and bypassing methods in circuit switch that is the core of cellular networks. We begin with providing a brief introduction of mobile network vulnerabilities and possible threats in telecom industry, then give security countermeasure solutions in circuit switch including SMS home routing and deploying signaling firewalls. This manuscript presents different methods in order to bypass signaling firewall and home routing security features in mobile core network, which lead to perform call, SMS and impersonation attacks.
