Abstract:

Background: Trichomonas vaginalis is a parasitic protozoan that lives in the human genitourinary system and causes symptoms. Trichomoniasis is the most common sexually transmitted infection, and according to the World Health Organization, more than 170 million people worldwide are infected with the parasite each year. Complications of trichomoniasis in women include an increased risk of HIV transmission, an increased risk of cervical cancer, preterm delivery, low birth weight, and an increased risk of infection through other sexually transmitted infections. Due to the importance of complications caused by Trichomonas vaginalis infection in pregnant women, the present study was performed to determine the review of studies in the west iran. Methods: In the current Meta-analysis study, by using key- words such as west iran, Trichomonas vaginalis, Parasitic contamination, and using search engines SID, Iranmedex, Web of Science, Pub- Med and Google scholar. We did comprehensive data collection. All articles with no row data were excluded. According to inclusion, criteria out of 8 articles 8 studies data were analyzed by using Meta-analysis software. Results: A total of 8 articles attempted to examine 15450 individuals and reported the prevalence of trichomoniasis from different regions of west iran. The overall prevalence rate of trichomoniasiswest iran was estimated to be 10 % (95 % confidence interval (CI) = 0.09 to 0.11) with the maximum 33.5 % and the minimum 0.009 %, respectively. In all studies, the average of age was 22.3 with the maximum and the minimum of 45 and 21.5 years old, respectively. The present review revealed that infection rate is relatively high among Iranian women, and risk factors such as hygienic situation, behavior and local culture, poor socioeconomic condition, feeble moral considerations, and increase in marriage age must be considered in the management of controlling programs. Conclusion: Despite Trichomonas vaginalis infection among married and pregnant women, it seems necessary to provide an effective health program to prevent infection in these people by health officials. The present study is to prevent infection and the spread of infection.
