The effect of Hypericum perforatum cream on women's satisfaction with perineal wound healing

Episiotomy has been used routinely for almost 80 years. Episiotomy cause perineal pain for long time, which could cause physical and mental stress to disable the person to perform the responsibilities. Wound healing is a complicated process that requires safe and useful treatments. In recent decades, due to development of new methods and the tendency to use complementary medicine such as herbal medicine, that make serious challenges in the field of wound healing among physicians. The herb known as Hypericum perforatum, has a wide range of biologically active compound, which reduces the duration of inflammation and increase resistance to infection and improve wound healing faster.Materials and methods This double-blind clinical trial study was performed in two groups of drug (n = 50) and placebo (n = 50) on primiparous women referred to Talesh Shahid Noorani Hospital. The studies samples used Hypericum cream at scars 12 hours after episiotomy twice a day for 10 days. Data were collected by three researcher-made satisfaction questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using Mann-Whitney and Fisher's exact tests. Significance level was considered as p <0.05.Results:Total Treatment Satisfaction score in trial group 73/93 was higher than the control group with an average rating 25.07(p <0.001). The trial group with an average rating of 69 compared to the control group 30 recommended more treatment to the others. (p<0.001) The agreement with the treatment reuse in the trial group with a mean score of 69.50 was more than the control group with the mean score of 29.50 (p<0.001).Conclusion: The results demonstrated that Hypericum perforatum herbal cream was effective in the satisfaction of patient by reducing pain and faster wound healing.
