Abstract:
The penetration of dispersed generation (DG) in electric power systems is increasing quickly due to public apprehensions for unpleasant environmental impacts of conventional energy sources. Despite the application of these energy sources can considerably diminish the system operation costs, they can additionally have a significant influence on the power system reliability due to their intermittency. Therefore, an apt combination of the power system reliability level and the capital investment cost is vital during the design of a DG plant. This paper presents a hybrid wind/photovoltaic plant intertwined with a hydrogen-based energy storage system supplying IEEE reliability test system (RTS) load pattern while the plant capital investment cost is minimized by applying a differential evolution algorithm (DEA), and the system fulfills the appropriate level of reliability. The requisite data sets for wind blowing and solar radiation is captured form the northwest region of Iran.
