Abstract:

Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) is a widely used method intreating microorganisms including bacteria. A lot of experimentalstudies confirm the bactericidal effect of plasma, but still there is aneed for simulation to characterize the details of interactionbetween plasma species and bacteria. It seems that oxidativedamage of proteins induced by reactive oxygen and nitrogenspecies (RONS) is the dominant effect of plasma. To model theinteraction, we have developed a system of ordinary differentialequations proposed by Marr to include the plasma effect. We haveexpressed the results as a function of bacteria number. The resultsshow that the number of bacteria is reduced due to oxidativedamage caused by plasma. This reduction is directly related to theplasma exposure time.
