خلاصه مقاله:
Background and Objectives: Stroke is one of the most important causes of death worldwide and associatedwith long-term acquired disability. There is no definite cure for improving of motor, sensory, or cognitive functionafter stroke injury. However, therapeutic exercise is the most common method of rehabilitation and can significantlyreduce the severity of functional damage. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of eight weeksforced Treadmill training on cognitive and motor functions in ischemic rats.Material and Methods: fourteen adult male rats divided into two groups: control group and exercise group andocclusion of both common carotid arteries are used to induce cerebral ischemia. In exercise group, the animals spent8 weeks of exercise (run on a treadmill 5 days of a week for 8 weeks) 24 hour after induction of ischemia. The skilledladder rung walking task was used to evaluate motor function before and after stroke. Results: In both groups, the number of errors has a decreasing trend compared to 24 hour after stroke; butsignificant differences at motor function were observed between the two groups in the third, fifth and eighth weeksafter stroke. Conclusion: The result of present study propose that post-ischemic exercise may be able to modify hippocampalinjuries after cerebral ischemia and ameliorated ischemia-induced memory and motor impairment.
