Survey of Interleukin ۱۰ Gene Promoter Polymorphisms at Position -۵۹۲ (A/C) and -۱۰۸۲ (A/G) in Type ۲ Diabetes Patients in Northwest Iran

Abstract:

Background and Objective: Today diabetes is one of the most prevalent noncontagious diseases around the world. There is strong evidence showing inflammatory reactions play a crucial role in initiating this disease. Interleukin ۱۰ is one of the most significant anti-inflammatory cytokines. Thus the present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between Interleukin ۱۰ gene polymorphisms -۵۹۲ A/C and -۱۰۸۲ A/G and susceptibility to type ۲ diabetes patients (T۲D). Materials and Methods: In this study ۷۵ T۲D patients and ۷۵ healthy controls were selected. DNA extraction was carried out and then the genotype in the -۵۹۲ A/C and -۱۰۸۲A/G positions were determined using PCR-RFLP while chi squared (X۲) was used as the statistical method for data analysis. Results: The frequency of genotype AC and CC in the -۵۹۲A/C position was significantly higher in type ۲ diabetes patients compared to healthy controls (p<۰.۰۵). Conclusions: The high frequency of C allele in -۵۹۲A/C can be considered as a predisposing factor for type ۲ diabetes.
