Abstract:
Background and Aim: Introduction: Colon cancer is considered as a heterogeneous disease, characterized by different biological and phenotypic features which make its diagnosis and treatment challenging. Regarding the significance of TGF-β signaling, here we aimed to determine related circulating miRNAs (miR-۱۴۰ and miR-۱۹۳b) in serum samples of colorectal carcinoma patients. Methods: Materials and methods: This study included ۳۰ colorectal carcinoma samples and ۲۵ healthy individuals. Total RNAs was extracted from serum samples using Trizol reagent. After polyadenylation and cDNA synthesis, expression levels of miR-۱۴۰ and miR-۱۹۳b were measured by real-time PCRResults: Results: Results showed down-regulation of miR-۱۴۰ and miR-۱۹۳b in samples derived from colorectal patients compared with the normal individuals. A correlation between expression levels of these miRNAs with some clinical characteristics of disease such as disease stages was also observed. Conclusion: Conclusion: These results suggest that this microRNAs can be considered as a tool for early diagnosis in colon carcinoma. Also, this approach may suggest a non-invasive diagnostic biomarker for colorectal cancer.
