Abstract:
Background and Aim: Esophageal cancer (EC) is the sixth leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Early diagnosis of esophageal cancer is an important isuue to improve the prognosis.The lncRNA HOX transcript antisense RNA (HOTAIR), expressed from the HOXC locus, has been recently postulated as an oncogenic regulator in EC. In this study, we aimed to assess the expression of the HOTAIR in EC.Methods: ۱۵ pair EC tumor and margin normal tissue samples were bought from cancer institute of Iran. RNA were extracted from all samples. The expression of HOTAIR was evaluated via the quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) method and the data was analysed via GraphPad Prism۸.Results: The expression level of HOTAIR was significantly higher in EC patients compared with normal tissues (P<۰.۰۱).Conclusion: The expression of HOTAIR in esophageal cancer tissues, compared with normal margin tissues is up-regulated, suggesting that it might play an important role as an oncogene in the carcinogenesis of EC.
