Abstract:
Background and Aim: Breast cancer is the most frequent malignancy in women worldwide and is curable in ~۷۰–۸۰% of patients with early- stage, non- metastatic disease . Endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) are remnants of ancient retroviral infections that make up ۸% of the human genome. Although these elements are mostly fragmented and inactive, many proviruses belonging to the HERV-K (HML-۲) family have intact open reading frames, some encoding for accessory genes called np۹ and rec that interact with oncogenic pathways. Methods: In this study, we collected on ۴۲ pairs of breast carcinoma and their adjacent normal tissues. After RNA extraction and cDNA synthesis , quantitative Real Time PCR were performed for Snail and np۹ genes. Statistical analysis were performed using SPSS software. Results: Increased expression of Snail and np۹ genes was observed in tumor samples compared to non-tumors sample. Conclusion: Our results may imply that increased expression of Snail and np۹ genes has an important role in breast cancer pathogenesis.
